About Me

Amanda Marrero, MA, LPC, PSEP (she/her)

I came to the field of psychotherapy through my own process of trauma healing at 19 years old. I found myself at a critical choice point, continue on a path of addiction or reach for support and believe there was another option for my life. I chose to seek out the mystery of my healing.

I first became a client in Dance Movement Therapy & Gestalt Therapy as I was a student at New York University. In reckoning with addiction and pain, I discovered the possibility of healing in an entirely new way. My therapist supported me to discover that I had the intelligence of my whole body to process experience through. I was given the opportunity to access resource inside of my body and learn to live from a place of love and connection to myself, others and to God. Now, I’m passionate and confident in supporting clients in their process of integration and trauma healing.

I believe every human being has access to profound wholeness, and my mission in counseling is to support my clients to experience the inner freedom that’s available to them. I specialize in trauma work, and creating a path for clients to live satisfying lives that are filled with rewarding relationships.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Language Pathology & Audiology from New York University and a Master’s degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University. I completed the women of color rape crisis counselor training with San Francisco Women Against Rape, and I’m deeply passionate about anti-rape activism and working with sexual assault survivors. In 2010, I lived at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA where I studied Gestalt Therapy, dance and yoga. I’m a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP) and utilize a somatic trauma informed lens in all of the work I do.

In my free time, I love to learn, engage in my own contemplative spiritual practice, dance, spend time with dear friends, and play in the wild with my precious dogs Willow & Oliver.
